As part of its Paris Motor Show festivities, BMW will be debuting new all-wheel-drive versions of the European-spec 1 Series hatchback. At the show, the German automaker will show off the two AWD-equipped models that will be available at launch, the diesel-powered 120d xDrive and the range-topping M135i xDrive - a car that we've already sampled (and enjoyed) in its rear-wheel-drive configuration.
But remember: the Euro-spec F20 1 Series is vastly different from the E82/E88 coupe and convertible that are offered here in the United States. And thus, this xDrive announcement only pertains to the European models. Dave Buchko, a BMW product and technology spokesperson, reiterated that "The current 1 Series coupe and convertible that we sell here aren't engineered for AWD. The three- and five-door 1 Series are not destined for the U.S."
In other 1 Series news, BMW will debut a new 114d model, packing a turbocharged 1.6-liter diesel inline-four with 99 horsepower that is said to return between 55 and 57 miles per gallon (based on the EU testing cycle). Scroll down for BMW's official release.
