There's more than one way to set a record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Just ask Nissan. The automaker took to the hill climb this year with its electric Leaf and actually managed to capture a spot in the record books with a unique stunt.
Terry Grant jumped behind the wheel of the EV for a sprint up the course... in reverse. Surprisingly enough, Grant kept the battery-powered hatchback pointed in the correct direction, and even managed to snag an impressive time of just 1 minute and 57 seconds from the start line to the checkered flag.
Of course, the Leaf required a little bit of modification in order to pull off the feat. Engineers removed the reverse speed limiter, allowing the vehicle to theoretically travel as fast in reverse as it does going forward. Looks like fun, but something tells us it couldn't hold a candle to the Lincoln Town Car that showed up in the Car and Driver backwards lap competition. Check out a few videos of the run below.
