UC Davis wins on breakaway layup

UC Davis on Saturday defeated UC Irvine 108-107 in double overtime on Mark Payne's breakaway layup off a perfectly-placed inbound pass from Eddie Miller. Here's some video of the wild final 19.5 seconds of the game:



UC Irvine's Patrick Rembert scored with 4.2 seconds left to put the Anteaters ahead, but Payne beat everyone down the floor and scored off Miller's stunningly beautiful bounce pass with 2.1 seconds left.

The quick turnaround in fortunes left UC Davis coach Gary Stewart going through a wide range of emotions.

"It became the slowest play of the game," Stewart said afterward. " It was almost in slow-motion. I could see the clock, I could see Mark. Thinking about it now, you're saying in double overtime, 'Does he have the legs to get there? Does he have the ability to finish before the horn sounds?' He made a great play."
