Lakers remain stuck in Charlotte's web

Despite only six scheduled games on Monday, some history was made in the NBA.

Each game was decided by at least 14 points and, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, this was the first night in NBA history where there were at least six games played and each was decided by at least 14 points.

One of the losing teams was the Los Angeles Lakers, who fell to the Charlotte Bobcats, 109-89. Charlotte improved to 15-12 under coach Paul Silas, while the Lakers suffered their first 20-point loss since last season, when the Spurs beat them 105-85 on Jan. 12, 2010.

Also according to Elias, the Lakers had played 99 consecutive regular-season games without losing by 20 or more points, which was the longest current streak of its kind among NBA teams. That distinction now belongs to the Dallas Mavericks, who have played 69 straight regular-season games without losing by at least 20 points.

At 8-5 overall against the Lakers, the Bobcats are one of only two active franchises with a winning record against Los Angeles. The other is the Boston Celtics (153-121).

Kobe Bryant had 20 field goal attempts (8-20 vs Charlotte) for the 24th time this season. The Lakers are 12-12 when he takes at least 20 shots, 26-6 when he takes fewer than 20.

Elsewhere in the NBA
With 12 points and 11 rebounds, Kevin Love posted his 41st straight double-double. He’s just the second different player since the merger (1976-77) with a double-double streak longer than 40 games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The only other player is Moses Malone, who had 50 straight double-doubles in 1978-79, and 44 in a row in 1982-83.

And with their win over Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Portland Trail Blazers have won each of their last 16 games against Minnesota. Elias tells us Portland matched the longest current winning streak for one NBA team against another. The San Antonio Spurs have also won their last 16 games against the Timberwolves.
