2. Last week, UAB coach Mike Davis was quick to text that Cameron Moore should have been one of the 50 players listed on the preseason Wooden Award watch list. Davis cited Moore’s ability to be a double-double player. Well, Conference USA was the first to have a media day and Moore was named the league's preseason player of the year Tuesday in Dallas. Not one of the Memphis players. Not Rice’s Arsalan Kazemi. No, the guy who helped the Blazers to the C-USA regular-season title in 2011. The conference desperately needs to show it's more than Memphis and everyone else. Having Moore be the preseason player of the year will garner much-needed attention.
3. TCU coach Jim Christian needs to make sure the Horned Frogs are relevant as they prepare for the Big 12 in 2012. TCU is entering a league that doesn’t have any really bad programs at the moment, unlike the Big East. The move clearly was made for football purposes, but basketball does need to pick it up. The Frogs will be in a 10-team Big 12 next season. Missouri hasn’t decided on its future, but the Tigers will be in the Big 12 for at least the 2012-13 school year. That means the Big 12 can simply just plug in TCU where Texas A&M was going to be on the 18-game schedule -- and also means the SEC likely is locked into an awkward 13-team conference for 2012-13.
